When two Anaheim brothers went missing on October 7th, the Anaheim police began a thorough and costly investigation into their whereabouts. On Tuesday the father and grandfather of the boys pleaded guilty to two felony counts of child abduction, and were charged the $150,000 fine for the cost of the child abduction investigation, including the use of the AMBER alert.

The father and his parents were sentenced yesterday for the abduction of his 2 and 4-year-old sons from outside the Anaheim home where they lived with their mother. Abraham Fernandez, 23, and his father Louis Mendoza Fernandez, 52, both of Houston, pleaded guilty Jan. 4, 2011, to two felony counts of child abduction and were sentenced to 270 days in jail and three years of formal probation. Fernandez’s mother, Elizabeth Fernandez, 42, Houston, pleaded guilty Jan. 4, 2011, to two felony counts of child abduction and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of formal probation.

Co-defendants David Daniel Nicholas, 26, Monrovia, and Linda Fernandez, 29, Monrovia, are charged with two felony counts of kidnapping and two felony counts of child abduction. If convicted, they face a maximum sentence of nine years and eight months in state prison. See Penal Code Sections 278 and 278.5.

As the All-Star Game neared, Anaheim was getting ready for the crowds of people coming to enjoy the great American pastime. Law enforcement worked to maintain these five days of baseball family friendly. Security was a concern with the roughly 100,000 people expected to arrive in Anaheim. When attending the events at the stadium the general rules of game day apply but a little stricter. According to an article in the OC Register, Major League Baseball’s vice president of security Earnell Lucas explained that anything that airport security prohibits would also be prohibited at the stadium. Alcohol is not allowed in the parking lots, and law enforcement will cite those that violate the rules. RV’s and trailers would only be allowed at the Honda Center parking lot and shuttles would take people to Angels Stadium. Police were also on the lookout for ticket scalpers and unauthorized merchandise. Tickets are to be purchased by authorized vendors to avoid counterfeits. Merchandise should have the MLB iridescent silver sticker. With all that in mind…let’s play ball!!

A recent graduation ceremony at Anaheim High School brought frustration for many individuals, as they were issued $51.00 parking citations. The cars, which were parked in a city alley adjacent to the school’s auditorium, violated the Municipal Code which prohibits parking in “any” alley. Sgt. Martinez said that because “alleyways are narrow, parked cars inhibit access to homes and business and could block access by fire trucks.”

However, teachers and parents who received these citations on June 16, 2010 complained how there were no “No Parking” signs and a recently added curb was not painted red. The city has now revoked more than a dozen of these tickets. Officials agreed that the recent addition of an unpainted curb through the school’s beautification project may have made the street look more like a city street instead of an alley. The Public works Department will now be painting the curb red in just a matter of days.
