Man Who Killed 7 People Seeks Release from Mental Health Facility

Law Offices of William W. Bruzzo

Edward Charles Allaway was found not guilty by reason of insanity by a court in 1977 and has been petitioning since 1995 to be released as an out- patient from a mental health facility. He was convicted of killing 7 co-workers using a rifle when he was a janitor at Cal State Fullerton. Allaway’s mental instability led him to think that his co-workers had influenced his wife into acting in adult films. The facility where he is institutionalized had recommended in 2009 that he be released since he was mentally stable. The Orange County District Attorney and relatives of victims were extremely opposed to such a release. The facility then changed its recommendation and a court denied his release. He can file again in one year.
